Weekly Prairie Inn Harriers Training Sessions

Everyone Welcome

Saturday Trail Runs at Thetis Lake Park
  • Saturdays at 8:00 am
  • Meet at the main Thetis Lake parking lot at the end of Six Mile Road
  • The classic Prairie Inn Harriers social run. All runners and walkers welcome - a group leader for all paces. Approximately 60 minutes on the trails of Thetis Lake and Francis King parks. Post-run refreshments supplied by the club. Breakfast follows at nearby Chequered Flag on Millstream Road.
Tuesday Night Workouts - Speed and Power Sessions
  • Tuesdays at 5:00 pm
  • Speed and power development program. Workouts vary to keep things interesting. Sometimes it's hills, sometimes it's flat intervals. All paces represented - everyone welcome.
  • Continuing Weekly Year 'Round.
  • Currently at Cedar Hill Rec Centre at 5:00 pm from November, 2011 through April, 2012.

Thursday Morning Runs - 9:00 am
  • Meet at 9 am for 1 hour adventure runs.

Summer 2011 Wilderness Running & Hiking

There are various distances available at each of these Harriers runs and hikes. Please email our Social Coordinator, Sara Pape-Salmon at social@pih.bc.ca, if you are interested and Sara will forward your names to the appropriate run/hike coordinator. There's a maximum of 36 participants per event. We have to plan for ferries, travel, vehicles, food and other logistics for the events, so please don't wait to the last minute to sign up. Thanks.

  1. Sunday, June 5, Cowichan River Run, 8:30 am Sara Pape-Salmon (coordinator).
  2. Sunday, July 17, 10:00 am - Salt Spring Island. Gary Duncan (coordinator).
  3. Sunday, August 28, 9:00 am - Kludahk Trail Run and Hike (San Juan Ridge, west of Sooke). Andrew Pape-Salmon (coordinator).
Monday through Friday all year long
  • Meet at the downtown YMCA at 12:05 pm
  • The legendary lunch bunch. Join the grizzled veterans for a hard-nosed road run of about 5.5 miles.
Cycling
  • If you're training for triathlons or just enjoy cycling, the Harriers have several weekly scheduled group rides.
  • Road Riding
    • Sundays, 2:00 pm
      Meet at the Howard Johnson Hotel, 4670 Elk Lake Drive. 90-minute road ride around the Saanich Peninsula, weather permitting.
    • Wednesdays, 9:00 am
      Meet at Ken Bonner's house in Oak Bay for the weekly road ride to Sidney and around the Saanich Peninsula. Various meeting spots. Always a great social ride with the retired guys with a coffee stop in Sidney. Year-round, all weather, fenders required if wet. Map from Beach Drive & Orchard Ave
    • Fridays, 6:15 pm
      Meet at the Thetis Lake gravel parking lot on Six Mile Road near the Galloping Goose. 60-90 minute road ride through the Western Communities, weather permitting.
  • Mountain Biking
    • Sundays, 2:00 pm
      Meet at the end of Woodridge Place, off Munns Road past the Highlands Volunteer Fire Hall. 90-minute to 2 hour ride on the Hartland Trails. All weather. Note: This is an optional trail ride. Main ride is on the roads from the HoJo.
    • Thursdays, 6:15 pm
      Meet at the end of Westoby Road, 60-90 minute ride near Stewart Mountain and on the Trails of Thetis Lake Park and adjacent power lines. All weather.
    • Saturdays, 2:00 pm
      Meet at the end of Woodridge Place, off Munns Road past the Highlands Volunteer Fire Hall. 90-minute to 2 hour ride on the Hartland Trails. All weather.
Racewalking
  • The Prairie Inn Harrier Racewalkers are an enthusiastic group of recreational and competitive walkers. They train at UVIC track on Wednesday night from 5:30 - 6:30 pm year round.
  • Wednesdays, 5:30 pm
    Meet at UVic's Centennial Stadium Track.
